Rothschild St. - the heart of the "White City"

Rothschild St. is one of the most beautiful boulevards in Tel Aviv, and one of the best walking tours in the city. Spreading from Neve Tzedek in its south-western end to the national theater in the north, Rothschild St. offers visitors a designated promenade for pedestrians and bicycle as its centerpiece. Around the boulevard are many cafés, restaurants and kiosks, alongside some of Tel Aviv's most impressive Bauhaus architecture, at the heart of the "White City", a name given to this UNESCO World Heritage site in 2003.

You can easily spend couple of hours along Rothschild St. It is a great location for some people-watching, resting on one of the promenade's benches, walking around, sipping a cup of great coffee, or sitting in one of the most popular restaurants in Tel Aviv.

For a glance of Israeli history, you can visit the Eliahu Golomb House, the Israel Defense Forces Museum, which tells the story of Jewish defense from the beginning of the century until the establishment of the Israel Defense Force. For those who wish to visit an art gallery, many of those are located along the boulevard, including, among others, the Sommer gallery and Julie M.

When getting hungry or tired of walking around, Rothschild St. is a great place for culinary purposes, with a wide selection of fine restaurants alongside casual sandwiches stands in the middle of the boulevard. For some Japanese food, try Yakimono or Sushido, both offer authentic Sushi and other Japanese dishes in fair prices. For some Italian food, visit Cantina or Fabiana. If Hamburgers are your favorites, go to Mose's, which continuously wins the "best Tel Aviv Hamburger" awards. Two other places worth a visit are the Brewhouse, a local microbrewery which serves excellent beers, and Max Brenner's Chocolate Bar, famous for its great chocolate and deserts.

Rothschild St. is within a walking distance from Adiv hotel Tel Aviv, and it's a very nice walking tour getting there, too. You can also reach there by taxi (ask the driver to turn on the meter) or by several buses, which have stops along the boulevard.
