Parks and gardens in Tel Aviv
When visiting Tel Aviv, one of the first noticeable facts about the city is that it's much greener than expected. The green areas of Tel Aviv total 7,400 dunam (1,850 acres) and are combined of 250 gardens, 22 boulevards, 128 groves and 6 parks. Green areas were given high priority by the first city planners, and its founders dreamt of a “garden city”. True, Tel Aviv grew faster than they imagined into an urban hub, yet some of that first concept remained, and green areas continue to get high priority by the Tel Aviv Municipality.
The first city plan was formed back in 1925, giving clear preference to green and open spaces. The plan was not fully implemented, but its footprints have been felt ever since.
The city’s two major parks are Hayarkon Park in the North and Park Darom in the south. Hayarkon Park is the largest public park in Tel Aviv and one of the most famous parks in Israel. With many trees, lots of greenery and a streaming river, Hayarkon Park is a great place for families and couples to visit. The eastern part is much wider and has many all-family activity centers, while the western part is narrower, more romantic and less family-oriented. The second major part is Park Darom (Menachem Begin Park), which contains two small artificial lakes, the larger used for cable water-ski. "Sportek Darom", located at the western part of Park Darom, offers a variety of sport facilities as well.
There are many other parks, gardens and green areas all throughout the city, including Charles Clore Park, near the southern part of the beach; Gan Ha'ir Park near the city hall; Edith Wolfson Park in the eastern part of the city and many other green spots spread around the city.
Most of Tel Aviv hotels are located in the western part of the city, next to the beach promenade. Some Tel Aviv hotels, though, offer easy access to some of the city’s most beautiful parks and gardens. You will find Adiv hotel one of the most conveniently located Tel Aviv hotels, within a short walking distance from some lovely gardens. Just ask the staff and they will be pleased to show you the way.
