Neve Tzedek
At the southern part of Tel Aviv, right next to the beach and very close to some of the major hotels in Tel Aviv, lies Neve Tzedek, one of the most charming neighborhoods of the city. Neve Tzedek was founded in 1887 - 22 years before the establishment of the city of Tel Aviv - as the first Jewish neighborhood in this area.
Nowadays, Neve Tzedek is a cultural and culinary center. The old neighborhood was renovated yet retained much of its charm over the years. A walk within its narrow streets and lanes, through the unique buildings and small shops, is an enchanting experience. Though it has become one of the most expensive areas of Tel Aviv (which some might say has turned it Yuppie), visitors still feel the old charm while visiting.
Neve Tzedek has a long history of famous residents: it is where many famous artists and writers chose to live and work. Nahum Gutman, a famous Israeli painter who captured the spirit of the early days of the city, was one of them, and his work is exhibited in the Gutman Museum in the neighborhood. Another famous resident of Neve Tzedek in its early days was the Nobel Prize winning author and poet Shmuel Yosef Agnon, who lived next to his fellow famous writer Haim Brener.
Suzanne Dellal center is an interesting stop for tourists attracted by local culture. Being one of the most important Tel Aviv theatrical and cultural centers, Suzanne Dellal is the home for Israel’s famous BatSheva Dance Company and BatSheva Ensemble. Catching a dance show or a live act, most of which focusing on Israeli identity and revealing its various faces, is a highly recommended experience. Next to Suzanne Dellal center you can visit Suzanna Café, a great restaurant with a nice terrace attracting locals and tourists for more than a decade – which is like centuries in terms of Israeli restaurants' lifetime.
There are quite a few other decorative cafes, bars and restaurants in Neve Zedek, including: Bellini, a superb Italian restaurant with a nice balcony facing the Suzanne Dellal square; Nina, a great option for vegetarians, serving organic food; Michelle, where you can occasionally catch a live act in the evening; and many other small places with lovely atmosphere.
Neve Tzedek is very close to many hotels in Tel Aviv, since it is located right next to the southern part of the beach. Adiv Hotel is one of the hotels in Tel Aviv that offer an easy access to Neve Tzedek and the lovely beach, as well.
