The Nachum Gutman Museum and the Chelouche Gallery for Contemporary Art
The Nachum Gutman Museum of Art is just one of the many wonderful places to visit in Tel Aviv's Neve Tzedek neighborhood, a short walk from your Tel Aviv hotel. Founded in May 1998 in the historical "Writers House," the Nachum Gutman Museum of Art (Ph: 03-5161970, http://www.gutmanmuseum.co.il/) is a tribute to one of Israel's most popular painters, illustrators, and writers.
Gutman, who immigrated to Israel from Odessa as a young child, studied in the Bezalel School of Arts and Crafts as a teenager. He is known for helping develop a distinctly Israeli artistic style, and his own personal style - ranging from figurative to abstract - soon contributed to his acclaim as a children's book illustrator and writer.
Until 2005, the museum exhibited mainly Gutman's works, but today houses a number of other exhibitions, including "Artist-Pilgrim: Travels of Research and Yearning," an exhibit focused on artists' travels to the Middle East and more contemporary Israeli artists such as Dudu Geva, Danny Eshet, and Noa Yaari. Open seven days a week, and certainly not far from your Tel Aviv hotel, the Nachum Gutman Museum of Art is a worthwhile stop in the Neve Tzedek neighborhood. Another point of interest not far from the Nachum Gutman Museum is the Chelouche Gallery for Contemporary Art (03-528-9713, http://www.chelouchegallery.com/). The Chelouche Gallery, opened in 1985, hosts exhibitions of new media, video art, sculpture, painting, installation, and photography and features both Israeli and international artists.
After visiting museums in the Neve Tzedek neighborhood, be sure not to miss one of the great bars, restaurants, and cafes in the area. The staff at your Tel Aviv hotel can provide you with recommendations of the places to check out, and the Adiv Hotel is happy to offer you help in getting to the Nachum Gutman Museum, the Checlouche Gallery, or the nearby beaches.
