Gordon Galleries - Tel Aviv
Tel Aviv's museums and galleries cover extensive types and periods, from classical to contemporary art and from local to foreign artists. There are few central art galleries' areas scattered around the city, each of which offer a glance of Tel Aviv's kicking art galleries scene. The most condense area for that matter is the Gordon galleries district, in Gordon and the cross streets, with almost wall-to-wall galleries.
When visiting the Gordon galleries area, you don’t want to miss the Gordon gallery (www.gordongallery.co.il) at 95 Ben-Yahuda Street. Recognized as one of the leading galleries in Israel for the last 40 years, Gordon gallery held over 400 exhibitions and published 2 books, considered among the most authoritative art books published in Israel. These days, the gallery's emphasis is on exhibiting photography and works by young promising artists. As such, it gives a nice option for those who wish to explore Israel's younger contemporary art scene.
As abovementioned, there are many other smaller places in Gordon galleries area. The Stern Gallery at 30 Gordon Street (Tel: +972-3524-6303) specializes in Israeli and famous foreign Jewish artists, and in special exhibitions of younger artists. The Givon Gallery of contemporary works is located at 35 Gordon Street (Tel: +972-3522-5427), and right next door, at 37 Gordon Street (Tel: +972-3532-6863) you will find the Mabat Gallery, with its newest art exhibitions. Nelly Aman at 26 Gordon Street (Tel: +972-3523-2003) is another contemporary art gallery in Gordon galleries area, with many interesting exhibits, and Rosenfeld Gallery (www.rg.co.il) at 147 Dizengoff Street is one of the most prominent exhibition spaces in the local art scene, and another interesting gallery to visit while visiting this area.
Most galleries are open Sunday to Thursday from 10am to 1pm and 5 to 8pm, but make sure you check opening hours in advance.
