The centennial celebrations of Tel Aviv

The city of Tel Aviv was founded in April 11th 1909, when several families held a seashell lottery to divide the land they have jointly purchased between them. They were the pioneers of the city of Tel Aviv, the first Hebrew city that will be celebrating 100 years since this founding event starting April 2009.

The centennial events will last throughout an entire year, and will embrace all of the city’s residents and visitors: youth and adults, secular and religious, and practically everyone who will be visiting the city in order to participate in this very special event.

The basic concept of these celebrations is to honor the past residents of Tel Aviv, who have made it the leading city of Israel; and its present residents, who are making it the cosmopolitan urban hub as it is today.

The centennial celebrations will include many touristy joint ventures, and the whole year will be a very lively period in the life of the city that never goes to sleep. Tourists arriving in Israel during 2009 will be introduced to the Tel Aviv-Yafo centennial events starting with a welcome booth in Ben Gurion International airport, offering information on the main attractions and events.

Amongst these activities, the centennial celebrations of Tel Aviv will include numerous art and culture events that will take place both indoors and outdoors. The city will host many street art exhibitions, and some 1,000 billboards will be hung along the central boulevards and boardwalks. Four rotating exhibitions will be presenting historical photographs, paintings, comics, graffiti, and much more from the city’s past. The celebrations will also include many special events for the Jewish world - including the Maccabiah Games - and will host sports delegations from Jewish communities in the Diaspora. The city will also unveil three new walking routes to explore the historically and architecturally significant heart of Tel Aviv, which had received the “white city” UNESCO World Heritage site title.

Adiv hotel is one of the most conveniently located hotels in Tel Aviv. As such, it offers easier access than most hotels in Tel Aviv to many of the main attractions during this period. Like in many hotels in Tel Aviv, you will find in Adiv friendly staff willing to help you and guide you through the main events of this exciting Tel Aviv celebration.
