The Cameri Tel Aviv
The Cameri Tel Aviv was established over 60 years ago as the first Hebrew-language repertory theatre in Israel. The New Cameri Tel Aviv theatre is the largest theatre center in Israel, located in the Performing Arts Complex, in the heart of the city, right next to the new Israeli opera, the Tel Aviv museum of art and the city's central library, and within walking distance from the Tel Aviv hotels area.
The Cameri Tel Aviv includes three theatre halls - a 950-seat Auditorium, a 450-seat Hall, and a 200-seat “black box”. The theatre presents and discusses issues of past and present importance in the Israeli society - war and peace, tension between religious and secular Jews, the status of women, the dynamics of inter-generational relations and other topics of sociological, political and cultural importance. These dilemmas and values are represented through local as well as universal plays, which are infused with contemporary Israeli political and social connotations.
The Cameri theatre stages seven to nine new productions a year, and hosts more than a million visitors annually. The theatre also represents Israel at festivals and tours worldwide. Following some of the performances, moderated discussions are conducted with audience participation. Panel participants often comprise Israel’s leading literary, media & public figures. For non-Hebrew speakers, the Cameri Tel Aviv theatre presents some of its most popular plays with screened simultaneous English translation.
The Cameri is located at 19 Shaul Hamelech Blvd., few minutes' walk from Adiv hotel and the Tel Aviv hotels area.
