Basel Street
When the "high society" of Tel Aviv is looking for a cup of coffee, Basel Street would probably be one of their first choices. Basel is a popular area in the northern part of the city, offering some shops and cafés scattered around a large square. Basel Street hosts no special attractions, except for laid back atmosphere and some great coffee and croissant to pass your morning or afternoon nicely.
The area of Basel Street is surrounded by parks and large trees which give an isolated feel to the area. There are many coffee shops and restaurants in Basel St., including Italian, Japanese and Israeli cuisine, as well as several alcohol-serving bars.
Some of the best cafes in the area include Alkalay, at 1 Alkalay St., a popular café with a casual atmosphere and regular customers, serving basic menu and good coffee; Arcaffe, in the middle of the square, is a self service café with excellent Italian coffee and great sandwiches; and Lulu, at 5 Alkalay St. is beautifully designed, and offers quiet atmosphere alongside your morning coffee.
Some other recommended stops while visiting Basel St. are the area's jewelry and gift shops, scattered around the plaza. The jewelry shops offer a wide selection of local and antique pieces, and in the lovely Del-Arte gift shop, at 9 Ashtory Hafarchi St., you will find some stunning handmade items.
Not many hotels in Tel Aviv are located in the northern part of the city. In fact, most of hotels in Tel Aviv can be found next to the beach, not in the city itself. Getting to Basel St. is quite easy from Adiv hotel, which is one of the most conveniently located hotels in Tel Aviv – you can either take a bus and get off at the corner of Dizengoff and Basel streets or take a taxi for a short 5-10 minutes drive that should not cost too much.
